New Laptop and Fedora

My friend from middle school just so happened to want to sell some of her unused electronics. I bought her basically new laptop off of her and booted Fedora onto it. This is the main machine I am using to update my neocities and play with Linux customization. I have no fully given up Windows as my gaming PC is still running Windows. Thanks to the steam deck and Proton it may be a good possibilty one day for me to have all my devices on Linux. I may boot a new distro onto my old laptop at some point. I am enjoying Fedora so I think learning VIM and git will come next.

Failure to Dual Boot

I dug up mhy old college laptop in January 2026 to see if I could update to Windows 11. BIG SURPRISE... I couldn't. Thanks for the largest ewaste event Microsoft. As most people, I was frustrated with Windows so I tried to dual boot Ubuntu onto my laptop. That was a failure. I backed up all my files and the windows key code to a thumb drive and installed Ubuntu. Process was super easy.

Linux on Steam Deck

I had my next exposure to Linux in April of 2025 when I received my lovely partners old steam deck. He hadn't done any delving into emulators but that was something I had really wanted to try. It was a relatively easy process and I ended up installing EmuDeck. The amount of terminal work was minimal but I did play around with installing ExpressVPN.

Ubuntu

I had my humble beginnings with Ubuntu back in 2017 using a VM on my college laptop. It looked much different and I didn't dedicate much time to it (working and getting an engineering degree will do that to you). Not much to say, Ubuntu looked quite different than it does today but that is all I remember.
